Group Activities

"Knowledge is a garden. If it is not cultivated, you cannot harvest it." - African Proverb

In September 2012, Dr. Doumon met and decorated the late Arch. Dr. Desmond Tutu with the pride of African regalia (Kente cloth) during his honorary doctorate ceremony in the Martinikerk in Groningen, The Netherlands.

I don’t think of work as work and play as play. It’s all living.” – Richard Branson

In the SEMDE lab., our philosophy mirrors Richard Branson’s quote. Work and play are part and parcel of our life. Our way of life is “play – study – extracurricular activities – research – fun – research – extracurricular activities – study – play”. Thus, we have a lot of fun, play, and do sports activities as a group and as individuals. Such extracurricular activities can seldom offer iconic moments, as captured in one of the pictures below when our PI, the president of the then African students Community (ASC)-Groningen, met the late Arch. Dr. Desmond Tutu. (see picture left).
