Outreach
"The ax forgets but the trees remember." - African ProverbThe SEMDE lab. believes in outreach in communities (with emphasis on underrepresented communities), especially programs for youth development. Two other aspects of pivotal importance to the group are:
- Showcasing research, scientific innovations, and technologies to the community
- Communicating science to a non-specialist audience
To achieve this, we collaborate with multiple parties such as the Alliance for Education, Science, Engineering, and Design with Africa (AESEDA), DAMINY EduNergy Mentorship Program (DENMP), Africa Sustainable Resource (ASR) group, etc. If you wish to invite us to partake in any community activity that can benefit from our expertise, do not hesitate to contact the lab.
See below pictures of some of our activities:
Our research group attended the first (of three) Inter-Institutional Partnerships for Diversifying Research (IPDR) Symposium on March 14, 2024, at Howard University, alongside researchers and engineers from Howard University and Morgan State University (MSIs), and The Pennsylvania State University. The event featured groundbreaking research in materials and tools for energy harvesting and offered a fantastic platform for knowledge exchange in the fields of energy transition, Li-ion battery technology, solar energy harvesting tech, energy material discovery, and critical minerals recovery.
The symposium gathered faculty and students around the theme “Meeting the Renewable Energy Needs for a Sustainable Future” and provided valuable networking opportunities, allowing us to connect with leading researchers and industry experts. These interactions are crucial as we continue to push the boundaries of solar energy harvesting research and energy transition. Overall, the IPDR Symposium was an inspiring experience, reinforcing our commitment to innovation in energy.
